Women’s semis at Wimbledon…World Cup final is set…Last 2 for All-Star Game selected

LONDON (AP) – It’s the ladies’ semifinals day at Wimbledon with Serena Williams taking on Julia Goerges and No. 11 Angelique Kerber facing 12th-seeded Jelena Ostapenko. Williams has a 9-1 career record in semifinals at the All England Club, while Goerges is in a Grand Slam semi for the first time. Wins by Williams and Kerber would set up a rematch of the 2016 Wimbledon final.

MOSCOW (AP) – Croatia was extended to extra time for the third straight game and once again, found a way to win, this time beating England 2-1 to reach its first World Cup final. Mario Mandzukic scored what proved to be the winning goal in the 109th minute. Croatia will play France in the World Cup final on Sunday while England meets Belgium in Saturday’s third-place game.

UNDATED (AP) – Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Jesus Aguilar and Seattle Mariners shortstop Jean Segura have won the final two roster spots for Tuesday’s All-Star Game in Washington. Major League Baseball released the results of online balloting for the final roster spot in each league. Aguilar received 20.2 million votes while Segura got 13.6 million votes.

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) – Triple Crown winner Justify is resting to see if swelling in his left front ankle will subside. Trainer Bob Baffert says the swelling developed recently and it comes and goes. Baffert told the Daily Racing Form Justify will ship to Del Mar and be part of his stable based at the track for the summer meet that begins July 18.

TOKYO (AP) – Organizers of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics say the torch relay will start in Fukushima, an area that endured a 2011 earthquake, a tsunami and nuclear disaster. The relay will start on March 26, 2020 in Fukushima and head southward to Okinawa before turning north and arriving in Tokyo on July 10. More than 70,000 people remain displaced from their communities in the Fukushima area.
