Woman Faces Charges After Injuring Officers

A woman who was residing at the Elm Street correctional facility in Dubuque was arrested late last week after police say she caused injuries to two officers. Court documents made available Monday say 22 year old Mara Leeser is charged with two counts of interference with official acts bodily injury, one count of assault on a peace office or firefighter and a warrant charging housing a prisoner for Elm Street. Leeser was arrested last Friday morning after police responded to a report of a disturbance at the facility. Leeser reportedly attempted to leave by forcing her way past staff members and tried to punch one of them. As officers were taking Leeser to be placed in a squad car, she ran and got into a vehicle that was parked in front of the facility. Officers took Leeser to the ground, but she refused to let go of the door handle. She then kicked one of the officers in the face, before she was pepper-sprayed. Another officer sustained cuts and abrasions to his hand during the skirmish.
