Woman Charged After Hitting Ex-Boyfriend

A Dubuque woman was arrested this week after police say she struck her ex-boyfriend in the parking lot of a convenience store. 23 year old Gabrielle Bennett was arrested Tuesday night and charged with assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, willful injury and reckless driving. Online court records say the incident happened at around 7 pm in the 900 block of Jackson Street. Bennett’s ex-boyfriend told police he was walking to a convenience store at around 7 pm, when a vehicle, later determined to be driven by Bennett pulled into the parking lot and hit him. Store surveillance footage showed the car striking Bennett’s ex throwing him onto the hood of the car, before he fell to the ground. He suffered several injuries including abrasions and scrapes to his arm and legs. When questioned by investigators Bennett said she tried to swerve to miss her ex.
