Woman Accused of Using Fake Money to Pay for Food, Rent

The actions of a fast food manager helped stop a counterfeit bill from continuing to move through Dubuque. According to police, a manager at the McDonald’s on Iowa Street noticed that a customer was trying to use a fake $100 bill at the restaurant’s drive-up window last week. According to a police report, the bill was obviously phony, as it had a different look and feel than a normal bill, and had Chinese characters on the back. The manager reported the incident to police, who followed up and gathered additional information about the woman who tried to use the bill. Investigators spoke with her landlord, who said she had recently tried to pay her rent with counterfeit money similar to the bill that was used at McDonald’s. The woman, 37-year-old Amanda Jones, was arrested and is now facing a felony Forgery charge. If convicted, she’d spend up to five years in prison.
