What’s Next For Jackson County Jail

The Jackson County sheriff’s office isn’t sure what the county will do after voters again rejected a plan for a new jail. The county asked taxpayers to approve a six-and-a-half million dollar bond referendum for a new jail. It would have been 14,000 square feet with 28 beds. The measure needed a 60 percent majority approval, but failed by 105 votes. Chief deputy Steve Schroeder tells our coverage partners at KCRG it’s disappointing. He says the state jail inspector has told them they need a new facility. A local family also donated $300,000 to the county for the new jail. Schroeder says that money will now go back to the family.
