Washington Locks Down After Administrator Is Threatened

Washington Middle School in Dubuque was on lockdown for a short time Thursday morning after a parent threatened an administrator at the school. That parent, 37 year old Candace Boots has since been arrested and charged with second degree harassment and possession of drug paraphernalia. In an email to parents, Principal Brian Howes says at some point after school started they moved into an “exterior lockdown”, which restricted visitors from entering or exiting the building. He says during this time classes and activities continued normally and there was never a threat to students in the building. The email goes on to say with the assistance of our resource officer who was present the entire time, the situation was addressed immediately and the lockdown was ended in about 20 minutes. Operations at Washington then returned to normal. Boots allegedly threatened the administrator over-the-phone and again at the school over an incident involving her daughter who attends Washington.
