Wahlert Still In….Hempstead is Out

One Dubuque High School baseball team remains on the tournament trail with a chance to get to the state tournament.

The Wahlert Golden Eagles used and 8 run fifth inning to soar past Benton Community 10-2 in last night’s Class 3-A district championship game at Maquoketa. The Golden Eagles will meet 3rd ranked Dewitt Central tomorrow evening at Dewitt for a trip to the state tournament. The Sabers escaped with a 4-3 victory over West Delaware in a game that lasted 16 innings.

The Hempstead Mustangs weren’t as fortunate. The Mustangs season ended last night in the substate semi-final game at Petrakis Park losing to Davenport Central 7-6. The Blue Devils rallied for two runs in the top of the 7th to take the lead and hold on. Central will travel to Farley Park tomorrow evening to meet 5th ranked Western Dubuque for a trip to state.
