Wahlert Catholic Graduation

The class of 2020 at Wahlert Catholic High School in Dubuque was scheduled to have a graduation mass and ceremony on June 20th, however it was postponed until August 1st due to COVID-19 concerns. At the time it was reported that some families of graduating seniors had contracted the virus, but it was not known how many people were infected. Holy Family Chief Administrator Phil Bormann says they will honor their graduating seniors with an in-person ceremony, but the option for a virtual event is still available. The mass and ceremony starts at 1 pm on Saturday and will be held at the Church of the Nativity, 1225 Alta Vista Street. Bormann says they will follow guidance provided by the state health department and the CDC. Each graduate would be allowed to bring four guests. Each family will sit together as a five-some, socially distanced from the other families in attendance. Masks will be required for all attendees to enter the church. For those families who choose not to or are not able to attend, they have already created a video presentation that will be posted immediately after the Baccalaureate Mass. 109 seniors are scheduled to graduate. Hempstead and Senior High Schools held their ceremonies inside Dalzell Field on June 27th.
