Veterans Day Ceremony

Hundreds of area veterans and their families and friends will gather inside Mystique Ice Arena in Dubuque next week for the annual Veterans Day ceremony. The event starts at 10:30 Monday morning. All Tri-State veterans’ organizations and military units are encouraged to participate. This year’s guest speaker is retired Army staff sergeant Joey Crowley. Crowley, who is now the senior vice-president of operations at Hillcrest Family Services, was deployed to Iraq in 2004 during “Operation Iraqi Freedom.” For him it was both scary and exciting. Crowley says he hasn’t prepared a speech for the ceremony he’ll just be speaking from the heart. Crowley has some advice for people, especially young people that may be thinking about enlisting in the military. All veterans are encouraged to wear the uniform of their organization or a military uniform at the ceremony. Following the event you’re invited to the Chili Feed which will be held inside the American Legion club rooms on Delhi Street. That starts at 11:30 and a bowl of chili will only cost you $1.
