VA Clinic To Open This Summer
The highly anticipated opening of a new clinic that will serve veterans in Dubuque County and six other surrounding counties is coming soon. The Veterans Affairs Community Outreach Center was scheduled to open this spring, but the brutal winter conditions slowed the construction process. Randy Rennison executive director of the Dubuque County Veterans Affairs Commission says they are shooting for the first week in July for a ribbon cutting. The clinic, located in the old Kmart Building on Dodge Street will include a number of new amenities that will serve veterans well. Unlike the current VA outpatient clinic on the campus of Mercy Health Center, the new clinic will provide plenty of parking for veterans and clinic staff. Rennison says another new feature will allow veterans who choose not to go to Iowa City to communicate with their doctor from home via an iPad.
