Upgrades To Park Help Minimize Flood Damage

Some business owners in Manchester hope recent upgrades to a downtown city park will help minimize flood damage. This year the city finished revitalizing the park along the Maquoketa River. The project involved lowering sidewalks so flood waters would be able to recede faster. One business owner says he’s already noticed a difference with this most recent flooding. The water was still pooling behind the Professional Park Building, which is owned by Greg Tiemens. He says the water is not as high as in previous years. Tiemens says this year he has only had to sandbag his back door. The city also bought and tore down old buildings in the flood plain. City staff says that also helps minimize damage.
