UPDATE: Police Make Arrest in Jogger Attack

Dubuque Police have now made an arrest in the attack on a jogger earlier this week. 22-year-old Thomas Langel of Dubuque was taken in to custody shortly after 1:30 yesterday afternoon. He’s been charged with Assault. According to police, Langel tried to grab a woman who was jogging on South Grandview Avenue, near Fire Station #5, at about 7:00 Sunday night. A young woman says Langel began running alongside her, asking her several questions and offering her flowers before trying to grab her. She was able to free herself by kicking and punching him. Police say they used traffic cameras to identify Langel. A suspicious vehicle that’s registered to Langel was seen in the area around the time of the attack. Assistant Police Chief Jeremy Jensen says in light of other cases around Iowa, police wanted to get the case solved as quickly as possible. Reports and rumors about the attack spread quickly over social media on Sunday night and Monday morning, with some people questioning the victim’s story. Jensen cautions people against letting the hysteria that develops on social media from overcoming their better judgement. Langel could face up to a month in jail if found guilty on the Assault charge.
