UPDATE: Loras Blvd. To Be Closed Through Today After House Explodes

A portion of Loras Blvd. where a house exploded Monday evening will likely be closed at least until tomorrow. A number of structures surrounding the building that once stood at 429 Loras, had their windows blown out in the explosion, which was caused by a large gas leak. Those properties will have to be deemed structurally sound and safe and then secured by the owners before the street completely reopens. The explosion left more than 50 people homeless. Some were able to stay with family and friends but, the majority of them have been put up in hotels with assistance from the American Red Cross. One fire fighter suffered a cut on his hand. Authorities say the explosion happened as crews from Black Hills Energy were capping off the leak, which was reported at around 4:15 Monday afternoon. The explosion occurred at around an hour-and-half later. No damage estimate is available yet and the investigation continues.
