CARBONDALE, Illinois – The UNI men’s basketball team took on the Salukis of Southern Illinois on Wednesday night, falling 70-62 on the road.
The Panthers got out to an early lead against the Salukis, leading by as many as 21 points in the first half. The Panthers recorded 13 points on the teams’ eight forced turnovers to pad the lead. The Panthers shot 50 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes and took a 16 point lead into the break.
The Salukis went on a 15-2 run to start the second half. Southern Illinois fought all the way back to tie the game with 8:41 remaining and took the lead at the eight minute mark. The Salukis maintained the lead down the stretch and outscore the Panthers 51-27 in the second half.
AJ Green finished the night with 22 points. Former Senior prep Luke McDonnell had 5 points and 7 rebounds, former Western Dubuque prep Spencer Haldeman added 4 points.
