Tax Season Is Here

Today is the day that the Internal Revenue Service will begin accepting and processing tax returns for 2019. Last year there were several changes in the federal tax code, but those changes mostly affected businesses and not individuals. Sarah Fincel is a tax professional at H & R Block in Dubuque. What’s new this year is the W-4 form. Fincel says there are not many changes in the state tax code this year, although you may have to wait a little longer to receive your state and federal taxes depending on the type of refund you file. A lot of taxpayers like to file right away, while others tend to procrastinate. Most of the more than 150 million returns projected to be filed this year are likely to be submitted before the April 15th deadline. The IRS encourages everyone to consider filing electronically and choosing direct deposit. Taxpayers can find answers to their questions by visiting IRS.gov. Filers can also get assistance through IRS FREE FILE or by trained volunteers in Dubuque and surrounding communities.
