Suspect in Series of Dubuque Rapes Pleads Not Guilty

The suspect in a series of Dubuque sexual assaults has pleaded not guilty. 29-year-old Martel Fountain entered that plea in Dubuque County Court this week. Fountain is charged with four counts each of 1st Degree Burglary and 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse. He’ll be arraigned on Monday. Police say Fountain forced his way into the homes of four women and sexually assaulted them. Three of the assaults happened over the latter half of 2011, with the fourth coming in May of 2014. DNA collected from each crime scene indicated that the same suspect had committed each assault. But Fountain wasn’t identified as a possible match until May of last year after he was taken into federal custody on an unrelated charge. His DNA was again analyzed later last year, and matched the samples connected to the rapes.
