Stores and City Mask Rules

Many national stores are now requiring customers to wear protective masks when shopping to slow the spread of the coronavirus and protect others. Dubuque County Public Health Specialist Mary Rose Corrigan says the list continues to grow, including Walmart, Target and Menards. Corrigan says enforcement is up to the stores but local law enforcement can be called if the customer refuses to leave. Corrigan says city and county officials can’t mandate mask wearing but they strongly urge people wear them. A Facebook group, ”Iowa Educators for a Safe Return to School”, is pushing Hy-Vee to require all shoppers to wear masks as part of efforts to safely reopen schools. Right now, Hy-Vee requires its employees to wear masks but not shoppers.
