Stewart Opposes Increase In Minimum Wage
The Senator who represents northwest Illinois says he’s opposed to a bill that would raise the state’s minimum wage. Democrat senate majority leader Kimberly Lightford has introduced legislation that would raise the minimum wage to 15 dollars per hour by 2026. Republican Senator Brian Stewart voted against the measure, saying the economic harm it will do to the state would be far reaching. Stewart says in the long run, working families will foot the bill for any increase to the minimum wage. The minimum wage legislation passed out of the Democratic controlled senate is now in the house, where Democrats also have the majority.
