Standoff Suspect Sentenced to 6+ Years in Federal Prison
The suspect who triggered lockdowns at multiple Dubuque schools last year will be going to federal prison for almost seven years. 26-year-old Robert Dettbarn, formerly of Dyersville, received an 80-month prison sentence this week in US District Court in Cedar Rapids. He pled guilty last September to a single count of Possessing a Firearm as a Felon. According to prosecutors, Dettbarn was a passenger in a car that was pulled over last May. During the traffic stop, he got out of the vehicle, pointed a handgun at an officer, and walked away. A two-hour standoff ensued before Dettbarn was taken into custody. The incident happened just blocks from two Dubuque schools, which were both placed on lockdown.
