WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Isaiah Thompson scored 14 points and Purdue responded to coach Matt Painter challenging his players’ toughness with one of the season’s best efforts in a 70-51 home rout of Wisconsin. The Boilermakers (11-9, 4-5 Big Ten) improved to 41-4 lifetime at home against the Badgers (12-8, 5-4). Sasha Stefanovic added 12 points and Purdue had seven scorers contributing at least five points. Purdue also limited the Badgers to their second-lowest point total of the season. The home team dominated on the boards, 42-16, which included 16 offensive rebounds. Evan Boudreaux had a game-high 13.
CHICAGO (AP) — Buddy Hield scored 21 points, Harrison Barnes added 19 and the Sacramento Kings beat the Chicago Bulls 98-81 to snap a six-game losing streak. De’Aaron Fox had 18 points, seven assists and six rebounds as the Kings led virtually wire-to-wire. Zach LaVine scored 21 for the Bulls, who had won four of seven. Chicago was 8 for 37 (21.6%) on 3-pointers. The Bulls played without forward Lauri Markkanen, who will miss four to six weeks with a right hip injury.
UNDATED (AP) — No. 21 Illinois is tied for first place in the Big Ten heading into a matchup at Michigan on Saturday. The Illini are even with Michigan State after the 11th-ranked Spartans lost at Indiana on Thursday night. That’s a big deal for Illinois, which hasn’t finished above .500 in conference play since 2010. Coach Brad Underwood’s team has won five straight games, and the Illini now face a Michigan team that’s going through a rough stretch. The Wolverines, who have been without injured forward Isaiah Livers, have lost three in a row and four of their last five. Illinois beat Michigan 71-62 when the teams met in December.
The Dubuque Fighting Saints earned a 3-2, shootout victory over the Omaha Lancers last night, behind a 35-save performance from Erik Portillo. The victory was Dubuque’s third win in a row and the Saints second shootout win of the season. Dubuque will try to complete a rare three in three sweep as they travel to Lincoln tomorrow.
The Loras College men’s volleyball team (1-0) opened the 2020 season at home on Friday evening with a 3-0 sweep against Rockford University (0-2) last night
The Clarke University men’s volleyball team earned a 3 sets to 1 victory over Robert Morris University yesterday in Chicago. With the win, Clarke moves to 2-1 overall on the season.
