Sports Betting Starts At Noon Thursday

Casinos in Iowa have the green light to take bets on sporting events beginning at noon today. A few weeks ago the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission put the final touches on rules that regulate sports betting in the state. All but one of the state’s casinos did not apply for a license for sports betting. Dubuque’s two gaming facilities have acquired their license and will be taking bets. Q President and CEO Jesus Aviles, says their betting station is located on the upper level of the casino, just to the left of the main entrance. There is a huge counter set up in the station where patrons can place their bets. The station also has a number of angled big screen TVs that display the odds on what sporting events people are betting on. The sports betting bill passed by Iowa lawmakers earlier this year excludes betting on some events, like minor leagues and in-state college team players. You must be 21 or older to bet on sporting events.
