SheSkates For Girls

A new group in Dubuque aims to teach skateboarding skills to young girls while also empowering them to become more confident. Co-founder Izzy Meji created SheSkates even though she has not been doing it for very long either. She says that works with the girls just fine. Co-Founder Maria Mojhadam says the feedback from the girls and parents have been very positive.┬áMejia says they are using the tennis courts next to the new skate park to practice until they are more experienced. If the girls don’t have the proper safety equipment they provide it for them.┬áThe seven-week course through mid-October is run through the City of Dubuque Leisure Services Department. Girls in kindergarten through fifth grade meet on Tuesdays from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Sixth through eighth grade girls meet Thursdays at the same time. For more information, go to the SheSkates Facebook page.
