Senior’s Brehm to Attend West Point
A second Dubuque student will be among the class of cadets entering the United States Military Academy this fall. Back in January, we reported that Hempstead’s Jack Gehl had been accepted to West Point. Now comes word that he’ll be joined by Senior’s Elias Brehm, who plans to study engineering at the Academy. In order to even be considered for acceptance into West Point, students must achieve above-average academic rankings, including grade point average and standardized test scores. They’re also required to have taken a rigorous class schedule, including four years of English, an advanced math class, and two years of a foreign language. Applicants are also required to be nominated by a Congressional Representative or US Senator. Only about nine percent of the students who apply for the Academy are accepted.
