Second Dubuque Roundabout Nearing Completion

Traffic is expected to begin flowing through Dubuque’s second traffic roundabout by the end of next week. The new roundabout is being built at the former four-way stop at the intersection of University and North Grandview avenues. Construction on the roundabout began during the first week of June, with a goal of having the roundabout open by the time Dubuque schools began classes. City Civil Engineer Jon Dienst says the goal now is to be open about a week before school starts. According to Dienst, much of the work still to be done includes pouring concrete on the east side of the roundabout. Some of the concrete work that was recently finished included the pouring of sidewalks and curbs. This roundabout is being placed just a block from the first one that was installed in Dubuque, at the former five-way intersection near Finley Hospital. Dienst says the new roundabout will include some stone and plant features that are meant to represent Dubuque and the Grandview Avenue area. The city’s goal is to have the roundabout fully functional by August 17th. If that doesn’t happen, the contractor working on the project will be fined a thousand dollars each day until it is completed.
