Sales Tax Holiday Weekend in Iowa, Wisconsin

Back-to-school shopping won’t be such a strain on the pocketbook in Iowa and Wisconsin this weekend. Both states are giving shoppers a sales tax break on certain purchases this weekend. The so-called “Sales Tax Holiday” is today and tomorrow in Iowa, and runs through Sunday in Wisconsin. In Iowa, sales taxes will not be charged on clothing and footwear purchases of less than 100 dollars. In Wisconsin, the sales tax break is extended beyond clothing to school supplies, but purchases are capped at 75 dollars. Computer purchases of less than 750 dollars are also eligible in Wisconsin. This is the first year that Wisconsin has held a sales tax holiday, while Iowa’s dates back to the late 1990s.
