Report: Iowa Conference to Change Name

It appears the athletic conference that both Loras College and the University of Dubuque compete in will be undergoing a name change. According to a report by the Cedar Rapids Gazette, the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference will announce this week that it is changing its name to the “American Rivers Conference.” Meanwhile, a posting on the conference’s Twitter page says that a “big announcement” is coming on Thursday. The change is believed to be a reaction to the addition of Nebraska Wesleyan University to the league two years ago. The grouping has been known as the Iowa Conference since its founding in 1922. The University of Dubuque has been a member of the league for all but seven years of its history, since 1929. Loras College joined the conference in 1926, but left in 1954. It rejoined the league in 1986 and has been a member since.
