Repeat Sex Offender Enters Alford Plea

A man who was registered as a sex offender in Iowa after being convicted on a sex abuse charge in Illinois eight years ago has agreed to a plea deal for sexually assaulting another young girl in Dubuque. Online court records say 28 year old Nathan Lantz, who was originally charged with second degree sexual abuse, entered an Alford plea this week in Dubuque County to lascivious acts with a child and violation of the sex offender registry. Lantz is accused of sexually abusing a girl younger than 13. During the time of the abuse, Lantz lived within one thousand feet of an elementary school, which was a violation. Lantz could be sentenced to up to five years in prison, assessed fines and given a 10 year special sentence which could land him back in jail if he is deemed a danger to the public. A sentencing hearing is set for October 28th.
