Reckless Homicide Filed Against Semi Driver Involved in Trooper’s Death
The semi driver involved in a crash that killed an Illinois State Trooper is now facing a criminal charge. Prosecutors on Thursday filed a charge of Reckless Homicide against 55-year-old Craig Dittmar of Stockton. They say he was behind the wheel of the semi that hit Trooper Brooke Jones-Story late last month. Jones-Story was performing an inspection on another semi at the time of the crash, which happened on US Highway 20 near Freeport. Immediately following the crash Dittmar was cited for Improper Lane Usage and violating Scott’s Law, which requires drivers to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles. In addition to the Reckless Homicide charge, Dittmar is also facing one count of Operating a Commercial Motor Vehicle While Fatigued. Jones-Story was the third Illinois trooper that’s been struck and killed so far this year.
