The San Diego Padres have parted ways with Cascade native Colin Rea by releasing the right hander pitcher after he was designated for assignment last week. He is now available to any team for his services after passing through waivers untouched.
The 28 year old Rea was a 12th round draft pick of the Padres in 2011. He made his major league debut in August of 2015 and pitched for the Padres for much of the rest of that season and the first half of 2016. But an elbow injury required him to have Tommy John Surgery, and miss the entire 2017 season. He spent this past season in the minor leagues, compiling a 3-5 record with an E.R.A. of 5.73 in 15 starts.
