Rays and Astros knotted…NHL’s Hurricanes undefeated…Temporarily paralyzed

TAMPA BAY, Fla. (AP) – The AL Division Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Houston Astros is all square. The Rays beat the Astros 4-1 Tuesday night to even the series at two games apiece. Ryan Yarbrough and five other pitchers combined on a six-hitter to beat Houston playoff veteran Justin Verlander, who was chased early. The best of five series shifts back to Houston for the decisive fifth game on Thursday.

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) – The Carolina Hurricanes are on a roll. They won their fourth straight Tuesday night in a 6-3 victory of the Florida Panthers. The start equals the best in franchise history. The victory matched the 4-0-0 start when the franchise was the Hartford Whalers in 1995-96. Ryan DzingelĀ  scored two goals for the Canes.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) – Broncos cornerback De’Vante Bausby says he was temporarily paralyzed during Denver’s 20-13 win over the Chargers in Los Angeles. Bausby collided with teammate Alexander Johnson while making a tackle and was strapped to a backboard and taken to a trauma center. Bausby says he could wiggle his toes 30 minutes later and regained full mobility after two hours. He walked out of the hospital and flew home with his teammates.

MIAMI (AP) – Gregg Popovich, the NBA’s longest-tenured coach, is praising NBA Commissioner Adam Silver for his stance supporting freedom of speech amid the ongoing rift with China. Popovich says he recognized that Silver is in a difficult situation following the Chinese dismay over a tweet posted last week by Houston general manager Daryl Morey that showed support for anti-government protesters in Hong Kong.

DALLAS (AP) – An interscholastic rules organization in Texas has decided that two players on an East Texas high school football team coached by former Baylor coach Art Briles are ineligible. The Dallas Morning News reports a district committee voted 6-0 three weeks ago that Brock and Cameron Nellor moved to the Mount Vernon Independent School District for athletic purposes.
