The head of one of Dubuque’s casinos is all in on a sports betting bill, if the tax structure is fair to casinos. Q Casino President and CEO Jesus Aviles says he and his staff have met with the leaders of Iowa’s other casinos. They have drafted a proposal for the legalization of sports betting that they plan to present to the Iowa legislature this year. Aviles says any sports betting bill passed by the legislature would have to include a reasonable tax structure to ensure that casinos make a profit. The Iowa Lottery has been lobbying lawmakers for the opportunity to manage sports gaming if legalization goes through. Aviles says that would be a mistake. He says sports betting should be placed in the hands of casinos. The legislature is expected to debate the legalization of sports betting during their current session. But to date, no bill has been filed.
