Public Hearing On Prospects For Hemp

On the heels of the 2018 Farm Bill that legalized hemp production for interstate commerce nation-wide, the Iowa legislature earlier this year authorized the creation of a state program to regulate hemp growers. On September 16th, a public information meeting to discuss the prospects for growing, processing and marketing hemp in Iowa will be held at the NICC conference center in Peosta from 3 to 5 pm. Speakers from Wisconsin, where growing hemp was approved after the farm bill was passed, will be at the meeting to discuss their experiences with a pilot program being conducted in the Badger State. Among other things they’ll provide information on the potential environmental benefits of hemp production. The event has been organized by Iowa State Representative Chuck Isenhart of Dubuque. He is a member of the House agriculture and natural resources committees.
