Primary Day Results Update

Voters in Dubuque’s 3rd and 4th wards chose candidates for a vacant city council seat in a primary election on Tuesday. Danny Sprank easily advanced with 325 votes. Phil Atkinson also qualified with 98 votes. Angie Ma finished third, with 93 votes. Ma said after the votes were counted that she would ask for a recount since the margin was so close, but today Ma says she will not be asking for a recount. That means that Sprank and Atkinson will face each other in the November 5th election. Dubuque County election officials will canvass the results on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. In Ward 4, Brad Cavanaugh received 495 votes, Jay Schiesl tallied 114 votes, and Nino Erba got 18 votes. Cavanaugh and Schiesl will face each other in the election. Turnout across the two wards on Tuesday was 7.1 percent.
