Police: Abandoned Pit Bulls Had Injuries from Possible Dog Fighting

Injuries found in two dogs abandoned at a Dubuque apartment appear to have been caused by dog fighting. That’s according to Dubuque Police, who have arrested a woman who was supposed to be caring for the animals. In late January, police were called to an apartment near the intersection of 29th and White Streets. The property’s manager had called after finding two pit bulls in the kitchen. Police say both dogs had scratches and scarring consistent with dog fighting. One of the dogs did not have any food or water. Police contacted the owners of the dogs, who told them 21-year-old Alexia Ball was supposed to be caring for them. Ball and a man had been living in the apartment, but moved out days before police were called. Ball was arrested Sunday evening and has been charged one count each of Animal Neglect and Abandonment of Dogs.
