Plane Crash In Grant County

A  Wisconsin man escaped injury after his plane made a crash landing in Grant County Saturday afternoon. Just before 1:30, the sheriff’s office was notified by officials at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport about an aircraft that went down in a corn field between Boscobel and Woodman. Authorities and rescue crews then responded to the area and began a search. During their search they were notified that the pilot, 22 year old Colten Jaekel of Coon Valley was not injured. Jaekel had called 911 to report his locations to the search party. They found him and the plane in a cornfield in Marion Township. Jaekel says he began losing RPM’s over Fennimore, and attempted to make it to the Boscobel Airport, but when he realized he couldn’t he began to look for somewhere to land and eventually landed in the picked corn field. At one point Jaekel broadcast a “MAYDAY” on an emergency channel. The incident is being investigated by the FAA.
