Nine Dubuque Businesses Cited for Violating Tobacco Licenses
Nearly a dozen Dubuque businesses are facing fines for violating their tobacco sales licenses. A series of settlement agreements with the retailers are expected to be approved by the Dubuque City Council at its meeting tonight. The businesses all failed compliance checks in either November or December by selling tobacco products to customers under the age of 18. The violations were first offenses for five of the nine businesses facing penalties. The Altered State, Eagle Country Market, the Kwik Stop on JFK Road, the Neighborhood Quick Mart, and Sid’s Beverage have each agreed to pay a $300 fine. The other four businesses will be paying $1,500 fines for a second violation of their tobacco sales license in the past two years. They include the Casey’s on Rockdale Road, the Oky Doky on Hill Street and Kwik Stops on University and Central Avenues. Those businesses chose to pay the fine rather than serve a 30-day suspension of their tobacco licenses.
