NICC Today CU Tomorrow Partnership

A new partnership was announced yesterday between Northeast Iowa Community College and Clarke University to make it easier for high school students to earn a four year degree. “NICC Today CU Tomorrow” is a collaboration between the two schools that will offer duel admission for students at NICC as well as those who do not quite meet the traditional admissions criteria of Clarke and would be better served financially by starting at NICC. Students will be able to complete their Associate of Arts of Science degree at NICC, with their junior and senior year of bachelor’s degree completed through Clarke. CU president Dr. Thom Chesney says the partnership will provide a clear pathway for students to earn degrees. NICC president Dr. Liang Chee Wee says the program ensures that students will get a degree from both Clarke and NICC. He says even after a student receives their degree from NICC and transfers to Clarke they will still have access to the resources available at NICC. Chesney says many institutions accept each other’s credits for transfer. “Transfer ease” is where the problem comes in. Wee says this program has some unique aspects about it that differ from others around the country. The program will be implemented this fall and will guarantee NICC grads junior status in seven major fields of study at Clarke.
