New Hotel At Schmitt Island

About six months ago, administrators at Q Casino in Dubuque began looking at ways to expand hotel occupancy at Schmitt Island. At yesterday’s meeting of the Dubuque Racing Association, plans were unveiled to build a new hotel adjacent to the Hilton Garden Inn. Matt Coen with RDG Planning and Design says it will be a stand-alone 75 room hotel, consisting of mostly suites. The price tag for the new hotel is around 22 million dollars and Coen says it will be a self-supporting facility, meaning it will pay for itself over the years. Hotel rooms will occupy six floors of the building. There will be entertainment and hospitality spaces, a space for events and a roof top space for patrons and other activities. Coen says the hotel will enhance what the island already has to offer. The DRA board approved plans for the hotel. Construction is scheduled to start next spring, with a completion goal of the spring of 2021.
