National Human Trafficking Awareness Day

In recognition of National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, a free screening of a feature-length film about child sex trafficking will be Saturday at the Grand Opera House in Dubuque. “I Am Still Here” tells a fictional story based on true stories of child sex trafficking. The film is presented by the Tri-State Coalition Against Human Trafficking & Slavery. Coalition member Sister Pat Conlan says it’s a great opportunity for the community to be educated about the problem. Adult supervision is advised. Concessions will be available for purchase and free parking will be available in the Iowa Street ramp. Doors open at 9:30 am and the film starts at 10 am. A question-and-answer session will follow. Coalition member Sister Mira Mosel says they are working with hotels and motels to recognize and respond to signs of human trafficking at their facility. A pair of Dubuque  Representatives are co-sponsoring legislation that would mandate human trafficking training for hotels if they want to do business with government officials. For more information on Saturdays film go to www.thegrandoperahouse.com.
