Mt. Carmel Bluffs Senior Living

The Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary along with officials from the city of Dubuque and others broke ground today for a new senior skilled and assistant living community on the Mount Carmel campus. The “Mount Carmel Bluffs Senior Living Community” is being constructed to meet the needs of the growing older population in the Dubuque area. BVM president Sister Teri Hadro (HAY-DROW) says the project will be built in two phases. The first phase will allow the sisters to remain on campus while construction is going on. Once completed, dining services will be part of the new units. Phase two of the project calls for the deconstruction of buildings just north of the Motherhouse to make way for over 100 apartments for seniors. A number of trees had to be removed for the project, but they will be replaced once it is done. Sister Teri says the trees have been donated to the Trappist Monks. The total cost of the project is estimated at around 60 million dollars. It is scheduled for completion sometime in 2022. The project is a collaboration of the Sisters of Charity of the BVM and Presbyterian Homes and Services.
