Monticello Nurse Headed To Prison

A nurse who worked in an intensive care unit, and stole pain medications from an unconscious patient in 2018 has been sentenced to 4 months in federal prison. 43 year old Kelly Postel of Monticello pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids to two counts of acquiring morphine and fentanyl on multiple occasions from October 2018 to December of 2018. Postel admitted to stealing an excessive amount of the pain medications from the hospital pharmacy where she worked in Cedar Rapids and administering only the prescribed amount to patients. She then used the rest of the medications while still working as a registered nurse. She also admitted to using a syringe to remove fentanyl and other drugs from a patient’s IV line and then using the drugs while still on duty. In addition Postel was fined $5,500 and ordered to forfeit her nursing license and pay restitution.
