Merge LLC Project-City Council

The Dubuque City Council gave the go ahead last night for a developer to move forward with a proposed 20-million dollar, mixed-use building at the Port of Dubuque. Brent Dahlstrom, Merge Urban Development CEO, says the project will include 187 apartment units and retail space. Kristin Dietzel, Vice President of Workforce Solutions for Greater Dubuque Development, notes that Dubuque is attracting young professionals that need good rental choices. Dietzel says the Merge project creates the type of housing units that have been indentified as a need in Dubuque. Mayor Roy Buel says it’s a great project for the entire city. The city is also giving Merge a land acquisition grant of just over $485,000 as well as 10 years of Tax Increment Financing, or TIF, rebates. The project will be located along the corner of Fifth and Bell Streets, west of the Flexsteel corporate office building.
