McKean Announces Re-Election Bid

The man who represents Iowa House District 58 says he will seek another term in the fall. Democrat Andy McKean of Anamosa, who switched from being a Republican to a Democrat last year says he decided to run again some time ago, but since campaigns can be long and drawn out, he decided to wait until now to make the announcement. McKean says his priorities have not changed. Another priority for McKean is campaign reform. He believes campaigns are much too long, too expensive and too unpleasant. He has introduced a bill that would take the “dark money” out of politics. The bill, which was passed by state lawmakers in Montana last year, currently has 30 co-sponsors, and McKean is hopeful it will make some progress this session. The 70 year old McKean is seeking his third two-year term, after coming out of retirement in 2002. House District 58 covers all of Jackson County, and most of Jones County as well as the city of Cascade and Whitewater Township in southern Dubuque County.
