Maquoketa Man Sentenced For Vehicular Homicide

A Maquoketa man will be spending the next ten years in prison after a judge sentenced him for the 2018 vehicular homicide of another man. 22 year old Andy Ahrens pleaded guilty Friday to one felony count of homicide by vehicle-reckless driving. In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors dismissed a charge of homicide by vehicle-operating under the influence. In October of 2018, Ahrens was driving on U.S. Highway 52 near Bellevue, when his SUV veered off the road and crashed into a tree. Ahrens’ passenger, Alex Behr of Sabula died in the crash. In addition to the prison sentence, Ahrens was also ordered to pay 150 thousand dollars in victim restitution.
