Maquoketa Hall of Fame Coach Bill Fleming Dies

Maquoketa hall of fame boys basketball coach Bill Fleming died yesterday morning after a battle with lung disease.

The 76-year old Fleming who was inducted into the Iowa High School Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2006 served as the head coach at Maquoketa for 33 years and finished with 500 wins, 197 losses. Fleming took six Maquoketa teams to the state tournament — 1976, ’77, ’78, ’83, ’84 and 87. The 83 team had the best finish with a state runner-up.After retiring as coach at Maquoketa,

After retiring as a high school coach, Fleming returned to the game as an assistant college coach under former player Rocky Lamar at MidAmerica Nazarene. The program went to four NAIA Final Fours, including a national championship in 2007, during Fleming’s time there.
