Man Sentenced For Striking Girlfriend With His Car

A Dubuque man has been sentenced to nearly eight years in prison for hitting his live-in girlfriend with his car this summer. 36 year old Jeremias Woodland was originally charged with attempted murder in the incident that took place in the 21-hundred block of White Street in June. Woodland entered an Alford plea to domestic assault with a dangerous weapon, serious injury by vehicle and operating while intoxicated. He also pled guilty to probation violation. In exchange prosecutors agreed to drop the attempted murder charge as well as three other charges including violation of a no-contact order. Woodland’s girlfriend survived the attack. Traffic camera footage captured the entire incident. Woodland was also fined over $2,600 and must have no contact with his girlfriend for five years.
