Man Charged With Assault/Possession

A Dubuque man was arrested this past weekend after police say he assaulted his ex-girlfriend and had drugs and guns. Court records say 26 year old Anthony Smith lives at the Econo Lodge and was arrested there at around 6:30 Sunday morning. Smith is charged with domestic assault with injury, first degree burglary, a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of cocaine with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia. At around 2 am Sunday police were called to investigate an assault at a residence in Farley. Smith’s ex told officers that after she drove back to the residence, Smith reached into her car window and punched her in the face several times before fleeing in a vehicle. The woman says she and Smith lived together at the hotel, but she broke up with him Saturday. She says Smith had drugs and guns at the hotel. Police obtained a search warrant for Smith’s room and found nearly 26 grams of cocaine, over 800 dollars in cash, a loaded 9 mm handgun, ammunition and drug paraphernalia.
