Lawmakers Want Review Of State Prison

Two southwest Wisconsin lawmakers are asking for a review of policies at a state prison. Senator Howard Marklein and Representative Travis Tranel have sent a letter to the Department of Corrections requesting a review of the Wisconsin Secure Program Facility in Boscobel. Tranel says the letter was sent amid concerns of negative reports they are hearing from correctional officers at the facility. The officers claim they are not being fairly compensated for the work they do, and are forced to work long hours due to staff shortages. Tranel says that’s an issue that cannot be ignored. According to Tranel a recent assault of an officer by an inmate at the Boscobel facility has brought even more urgency to the issues faced at the prison.
