The University of Wisconsin Platteville has named a Dubuque native as their next head men’s soccer coach. Yesterday Sam Koenig was announced the new coach of the Pioneer men’s program. Koenig’s coaching experience includes three years at the NCAA Division Three level with the last two years spent at Dominican University in as assistant men’s soccer coach and recruiting coordinator.
Koenig played his prep soccer at Wahlert High School and then collegiately at Loras where he helped lead the Duhawks to three NCAA Division Three national semi-final appearances. Following graduation, Koenig then served as an assistant coach for the Duhawks. Koenig was also head boys coach at Wahlert from 2013 to 2016, the Golden Eagles had a third place state finish in 2016.
