Jackson County Jail Vote Fails

Voters in Jackson County have rejected a proposal that would have provided money for upgrades to the county jail. A $6.9 million bond issue failed to receive the 60% support needed for passage on Tuesday. A majority of voters supported the bond issue, as 52% of the votes cast were in favor of raising the money. But state law requires that a supermajority be in favor of a bond issue. County administrators had begun looking at improvements to the jail after two inmates escaped from the current facility in February of last year.
